DATES: |
The National Scout Jamboree is to be held July 26-August 4, 2010. The San Francisco Bay Area Council’s contingent will leave approximately 5 days prior to the Jamboree for touring. |
| TRAVEL: | The San Francisco Bay Area Council’s contingent will leave the Bay Area and fly to the historic east coast. Although tour plans have not been finalized, they most likely will include Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Gettysburg and Virginia. |
| ORGANIZATION: | The Jamboree is open to all who are qualified, on a first come basis. The Council Contingent is set at 3 full troops of 36 Scouts and 4 adult leaders each, for a total of 108 Scouts and 12 adults. Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts must be at least First Class Scouts. They must be at least 12 years of age by July 1, 2010 or completed the 6th grade, but not have reached their 18th birthday by August 4, 2010. Each Scout will go through an interview process to assure maintenance of the highest possible standards. Once the Council has filled all three Troops, a stand-by list will be established. Stand-bys cannot be assured of a spot at the jamboree due to the expected demand to attend this 100th Anniversary Jamboree. |
| ADULT LEADER SELECTION: | Each adult who applies for a leadership position (Scoutmaster, 1st , 2nd, and 3rd Assistants) will be interviewed by the members of the Council’s Jamboree Committee. See the responsibilities and qualifications for adult leaders below. Deadline for adult applications is December 1, 2008. The current plan is to interview leaders for the Jamboree in December 2008 and January 2009 and to announce the selections no later than February 22, 2009. |

Adult Leader Roles and Responsibilities:
The Scoutmaster has overall responsibility for the operation and performance of the Troop. He is responsible for the overall conduct of the Troop to, from, and at the Jamboree. He is responsible for organizing the Troop into an effective team thru the pre-jamboree Troop Meetings and Outing. He works with the Senior Patrol Leader to establish a smoothly running Troop.
The First Assistant Scoutmaster is responsible for Program, both in the pre-jamboree activities as well as understanding the Jamboree program in order to assure that the Scouts get the most out of the Jamboree experience. His primary counter-part at the Scout Level is the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. The First Assistant may be called on to stand in for the Scoutmaster with respect to managing the Troop if the Scoutmaster is not available.
The Second Assistant Scoutmaster is responsible for materials and supplies, both in assisting in logistics for transport as well as in the care of the Troop Equipment while on site. He works with the Troop Quartermaster.
The Third Assistant maintains records for the Troop, including collecting and maintaining medicals, emergency contact lists and other paperwork that the Troop may need. He also serves as the Troop Medic while in transit and for minor issues at the Jamboree. He works with the Scribe to assure that the Troop records are maintained and action items are recorded in the PLC meetings.
Other responsibilities may be assigned to each of these individuals as the Jamboree training proceeds. Each leader has different strengths; because of that, the division of responsibility listed above should be considered as a guideline, not considered as the only possible division of responsibility.
